Hello, welcome to another episode of what would Charlotte do today, I’m answering When To Know It Is The Right Time To Hire A Team.
Now, one of the biggest mistakes I see, especially in the online space is people hiring the team before they’re ready. And for the wrong reasons.
Now, hiring a team should be something that you’re excited about that. You can really feel comfortable with it, you know that it’s the right thing to do.
But what I see a lot of is. People hiring a team, and they feel scared, they feel worried, and they’re very anxious about how this is going to work for them.
And the main points that I always say to people if they’re unsure about whether or not it’s the right time to hire a tee is to see where they are, are they comfortable with the foundations they have in place. So are they comfortable that they have their systems, their processes set up, which then means that they can delegate the processes, effectively?
Are you still going to be able to pay yourself? So, is your business, able to sustain paying an extra person?
Now, this is one of the biggest things that I find it quite often. You get to you’ve listened to so many different people that are saying. If you don’t know how to do something just hire a team member to do it. That’s fine when you’re established and you have the cash flow there to do it.
But when you’re early on in the business. Quite often, you can get yourself in a state of overwhelm because you think you need to be doing this thing with tech. Or you think you need to be doing this strategy with your marketing. And you end up in this hamster wheel of trying to manage to do all the things. Learn all the things, and ultimately that then ends up in us burning out because we end up hiring someone to do this thing. But with no return back.
Because they’re maybe not focusing on the stuff that’s going to actually grow the business or scale the business.
And you’re paying them all the money that you have in the business and you’re not being able to pay yourself. So you’re effectively doing a hobby, and paying someone else to do the stuff for you which isn’t actually bringing any extra money into the business anyway. Sounds crazy, right. So, what I wanted to do was just say to you that actually.
There are other things that you can do, apart from hiring a team to start off with. When you are early on in the business, and you’re thinking, maybe you need to hire a team.
I want you to ask yourself these questions. Do you..
- Have systems in place that are going to help you to actually grow with this team member?
- The processes in place that you know is working for your business and bringing you a return?
- Automate where you can, so you can free up some time?
Is it a case that actually once you automate a few processes that actually get the time back to be able to continue doing what you need to do anyway?
Or is your business going to be able to sustain paying someone else as well as paying you? Now, if you answer no to any of those questions, then I would highly recommend that you pause. Take some time out, and look at where you are. What can you do in order to get yourself into that position that you are able to say, yes to those questions?
Yes, I have the processes in place that are bringing me a return.
I have automated, what I can. I can afford to pay myself and pay for a team member. And once you have looked at those, those questions. And you have been able to evaluate and say yes, that is when I would say that that’s the right time for you to hire a team member. Hiring a team member you need to look at the overall responsibilities of what that team member is going to be doing.
Because ultimately, you can’t hire someone that’s going to be this magical unicorn that’s going to do everything in your business. You need to have something that you know is going to generate the return, there is no point paying out for team members.
When you’re getting no return from what they are doing.
Making sure that you have those strategies in place that are working for you and you then have the time to reevaluate the strategies and to make them better. And to make the return bigger is ultimately essential when it comes to having team members in your business.
So, I hope that has helped and answered When To Know It Is The Right Time To Hire A Team.
